ABPP Board Certification in Clinical Psychopharmacology: An Update

The American Board of Professional Psychology (ABPP) serves the public through the examination and certification of psychologists engaged in the practice of 17 recognized specialties. Since the American Psychological Association designated clinical psychopharmacology (prescribing psychology; RxP) as a specialty in 2020, Division 55 (Society for Prescribing Psychology) has moved toward establishing specialty board certification in clinical psychopharmacology through ABPP.
This session will discuss the process of applying to the ABPP Board of Trustees and will review progress of the application to date. Proposed education, training, and practice guidelines will be shared. Details of the application process and interest survey conducted by Division 55 will also be shared. Finally, a frequently asked questions (FAQ) section will end this presentation.

Derek Phillips, PsyD, MSCP, ABMP; Executive Director, Fairleigh Dickinson University MSCP Program
Dr. Derek Phillips is a licensed clinical and prescribing psychologist in Illinois, a board-certified medical sychologist, and a clinical neuropsychologist and prescribing psychologist in the Department of Neurology at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center (SBLHC) in central Illinois since 2017. He became Executive Director of the APA-designated M.S. in clinical psychopharmacology program at Fairleigh Dickinson University in 2020, where he also teaches in the APA-accredited clinical PhD program.
Dr. Phillips was president of APA Division 55 (Society for Prescribing Psychology) in 2021. He is currently Immediate Past President of the Illinois Psychological Association, Secretary of APA Division 42 (Independent Practice), Treasurer of APA Division 44 (Sexual Orientation & Gender Diversity), member of the APA RxP Designation Committee, member of the APA CPT Advisory Committee, and member-at-large of the Illinois Association of Prescribing Psychologists Board of Directors. He is a fellow of the American Psychological Association and Illinois Psychological Association.
Lynette Pujol, PhD, MSCP
Lynette A. Pujol is a clinical psychologist and full-time psychopharmacology prescriber. She is the Deputy Director of the MSCP program at Fairleigh Dickinson. She is a clinical adjunct professor at Fairleigh Dickinson and The Chicago School. Dr. Pujol is President-Elect of Division 55 (Society for Prescribing Psychology) and is Chair of the Research Council. Dr. Pujol has been the primary Investigator or Co-Investigator on studies involving spinal cord stimulation, functional restoration, diabetes prevention, sleep, and treatment of suicidal concerns. She currently prescribes psychotropic medications at a tertiary care hospital. She writes and publishes on topics related to evidence-based medicine delivered through telebehavioral health and psychopharmacology. Most recently, she launched a website (PEPSteps) to assist MSCP graduates study for the Psychopharmacology Exam for Psychologists.

Target Audience: Clinical psychologists, graduate students, mental health providers.
