Statistics show that 1 in every 100 children in the country is subject to sexual abuse before the age of 18 and that only 12% of cases are reported. Research reveals that the psychological consequences of child sexual abuse (CSA) are devastating and often persist well into adulthood. While therapy can be effective in helping with psychological symptoms, sometimes regular, individual therapy can create adverse consequences in patients that undergo treatment. This research will review literature on the effects of CAS, and suggest a program evaluation for group art therapy as an alternative counseling intervention for children victims of sexual abuse.
