Clinical Implications of Mandated Reporting and Implicit Bias – 2025 Update

$45.00

Presented by Michelle Cutler, PhD

Thursday, April 17, 2025

8am-11am PT / 10am-1pm CT / 11am-2pm ET

Event held online via Zoom, link to access provided upon registration.

This workshop will provide a broad overview of the role of the mandated reporter, and the procedures by which to make a mandated report, per Illinois DCFS regulation. Most clinicians are familiar with these processes, but find the process frustrating, anxiety provoking, and overwhelming, as it relates to our relationships with our clients. In addition, clinical and ethical challenges exist related to the disproportionality of families of color in the Child Welfare System (Child Welfare Information Gateway, 2016). The clinical implications of working with families throughout this process will be discussed : issues such as when and how to involve caregivers, how to support families during the process, and how to maintain/repair the therapeutic relationship. This workshop will also address ways in which clinicians’ implicit and explicit biases may play a role in the mandated reporting process, as well as ways in which the Child Welfare system places clinicians committed to anti-racism in a conflict of values. It will include an overview of the history of the child welfare system in the US, and provided context to the very difficult and nuanced role of being a “mandated reporter.” Case examples and vignettes will be provided, discussion and community building encouraged!

Zoom link will be available on course page in “My Courses” upon event registration.

This program, when attended in its entirety, offers 3.0 CEs for Psychologists, 3.0 IL CEUS for Counselors and Social Workers, 3.0 BBS California CEUs for LPCCs, LPSWs, and LMFTs, or 3.0 NBCC Clock Hours. (*NBCC Clock Hours are available for live program attendance only.)
