Need for Additional Long-Term Housing

October 14, 2020 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm CDT

Roundtable Discussion

JuleMonai Chitty, Clinical Mental Health Counseling Student, The Chicago School of Professional Psychology, Washington, D.C. Campus

In the state of Maryland, data for individuals who are homeless and suffering with a mental illness is minimal. While data exists on this topic for specific counties across the state of Maryland, there is a lack of overall information. The purpose of this presentation is to call attention to the number of individuals who are simultaneously experiencing homelessness and a mental health diagnosis, specifically throughout the state of Maryland. Statistics collected from a number of counties presents information about the number of individuals who are currently waiting for a Residential Rehabilitation Program placement. It is evident that the number of people waiting to be placed in a long-term housing facility exceeds the availability of these resources. This presentation presents the research question of, is there a need for transitional and long-term housing, and what can be done about it?
