Children Witnessing Domestic Violence

This webinar will address concepts related to children witnessing domestic violence/intimate partner violence. The first part of the program will focus on defining domestic violence (DV) and intimate partner violence (IPV). The presenter will also discuss how the law looks at these concepts, including the legal constructs, associated with children witnessing DV/IPV.
The second part of the program will focus on the psychological effect on children of observing DV/IPV. The presentation will go beyond the psychological sequelae of children witnessing DV/IPV to include a discussion regarding the legal mandate to report child abuse when witnessing DV for mental health workers. The program will discuss the statutes and laws regarding mandated reporting specific to the state of California.
