In Paulo Freire’s book, Pedagogy of the Oppressed (1970), he proposed how oppressed individuals can find their own liberation through educational empowerment. This discussion will apply that methodology to help understand how Black millennials are discovering their own path towards liberation and “wokeness.” Racial identity development and community building strategies will also be discussed as it relates to liberation practices.

This discussion will also address how the use of social media impacts this particular’s group social justice development. This presentation will highlight how social media apps can influence interpersonal development and community building. Discussion will also provide the audience with strategies on ways to support this population while they are developing their identity as social justice beings.

This program, when attended in its entirety, offers 1.0 CE for Psychologists.
