Our community continues to struggle to address the myths surrounding substance use addiction, creating barriers to treatment and support. How can we best understand our current addiction crisis in the wake of COVID-19, and address our own bias toward the disease of addiction? You don’t have to be an expert in the science or pharmacology of substances to support a community steeped in overdose, isolation, and decline in mental health.

Since 2015, Michaela Detrick has worked as a PA certified alcohol and drug counselor at a treatment facility in inpatient detox and rehabilitation co-occurring mental health units. Michaela has served as a Subject Matter Expert for the International Certification & Reciprocity Consortium (IC&RC) Pennsylvania Credentialing Board. She serves as a group facilitator and coordinator with Christian Mental Health Support Group in her community. Currently, Michaela works as a National Certified Counselor at a private practice, providing outpatient therapy to individuals, couples, and families. Michaela is an alumna of the Online campus’ CMHC program.
