Description: Anorexia nervosa (AN) is a severe mental illness with psychiatric and physical complications . The effectiveness of the current recommended therapeutic interventions for AN is debated as relapse rates remain between 30% and 70% across various studies . This presentation proposes somatic experiencing (SE) as a possible alternative treatment approach for AN patients due to its ability to process the body’s response to the recovery process .
Identify the gaps in leading treatment interventions for anorexia nervosa patients undergoing weight restoration. Describe why somatic experiencing could be beneficial in the treatment of the chronic and traumatic stress produced by weight restoration in AN patients. Identify somatic experiencing interventions that could be used in the treatment of anorexia nervosa.
