Description: Youth placed in foster care experience environmental instability causing low self-esteem and negative identity development. This presentation will provide information about how foster parents can build healthy parent-child attachments and facilitate important biological and peer connections to support identity development and mental health wellbeing in adolescents. We offer unique perspectives of both a foster parent and a former foster youth to help guide counseling practices with foster youth and their families.
